Houssein Hamze has rescued thousands of animals since first starting his mission in 2006. Today his shelter houses over 300 animals. (Watch the short video above to learn more.)
The current economic crisis and Covid-19 have increased the rate of pet abandonment in Lebanon. Shelters and rescuers like Houssein are having to rescue increasing numbers of animals a day and are struggling to afford their food and vet bills.
Houssein works on his own, with the help of 3 employees who maintain the shelter's daily operations.
He also only speaks arabic and has basic knowledge of social media, so is helped by a team of volunteers.
